One of my most popular recipes is my baked salmon with ginger and soy. It’s a simple recipe to make, with a combination of Asian flavours that really hit the mark. However, because I love air frying as much as possible, I adapted the recipe to for air frying instead of baking in the oven.
So, if you’re looking for a delicious, healthy, and easy-to-make salmon recipe, then this air fryer teriyaki salmon will be the perfect quick dinner. With a perfectly flaky texture, crispy edges, and a rich, tangy-sweet glaze, this dish is ideal for busy weeknights – or a delicious dinner option if you’re entertaining friends or family.

How to make air fryer teriyaki salmon
I like to make the teriyaki sauce first. In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, honey, mirin, Sriracha sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic powder. Put it to one side, and then get your salmon fillets ready.
Glaze the Salmon
Brush the teriyaki sauce generously over the salmon fillets. I like to do this a few times to make sure all the salmon flesh is covered in the sauce.
It’s time to air fry the salmon
Spray your air fryer basket with a little olive oil or cooking spray to stop the salmon fillets from sticking. Then, preheat your air fryer to 180°c (375°F). Place the salmon fillets in the air fryer basket, skin side down, giving them enough room to air fry without them touching.
Air fry for around 10-15 minutes, depending on the thickness of your salmon. I prefer my salmon to be on the medium, medium rare side – so that it’s really flaky and melt in your mouth delicious. But if you’re unsure, cooking salmon until it has an internal temperature of around 63°c (145°F) will kill any bacteria but will be on the more well-done side. During cooking, get your teriyaki marinade and continue to brush more sauce over the salmon fillets. I do this around 2-3 times while the salmon is cooking. Doing this allows the sauce to caramelise slightly for a deeper teriyaki flavour.
While the salmon cooks for the last few minutes, heat up the quick homemade sauce in a small saucepan. Keep stirring the sauce as it begins to bubble and caramelise even further. Keep on a low heat, while you serve up your easy air fryer teriyaki salmon.
Garnish and serve
Carefully remove the salmon from the air fryer and serve on plates with jasmine rice, noodles and steamed vegetables, including pak choi. Pour the heated teriyaki sauce over the salmon, then sprinkle with sesame seeds and finely chopped spring onions/green onions.
Tips for the best results
- Don’t overcrowd the basket – Arrange salmon fillets in a single layer to ensure even cooking.
- Use fresh salmon if you can – Fresh, good-quality salmon has the best flavour, but if you’re on a budget, you can use frozen salmon. Make sure to defrost before cooking.
- Watch the cooking time – Depending on your air fryer model and the thickness of your salmon fillets, cooking times may vary. To make sure they’re cooked, you can check with a thermometer.
- Baste the salmon with the teriyaki sauce – the more you brush the sauce on the salmon, the more it will infuse the salmon with flavour.
What to serve it with
This air fryer teriyaki salmon goes with so many great dishes.
Steamed jasmine or brown rice – The perfect choice to soak up the delicious teriyaki sauce. I sometimes like it with egg fried rice, too.
Stir-fried or vegetables – I love pak choi or green vegetables with my salmon, but you can pair it with any vegetable of choice, including broccoli, carrots, mangetout, or sweetcorn.
Noodles – Serve over stir-fried noodles or even ramen noodles.
Salad – A light Asian-inspired slaw or green salad balances the richness of the salmon.
Other tips
Make Ahead – You can prepare the teriyaki sauce in advance and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Storage – Store leftover salmon in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. You could even flake some cold salmon and use it in a salad.
Reheating – Reheat in the air fryer at around 180°c for 3-4 minutes or microwave in 30-second intervals until warm.
Freezing – Freeze cooked salmon for up to two months in a suitable container. Thaw overnight in the fridge or until fully defrosted before reheating thoroughly.
